Lakshmi Rai (or Lakshmi Roy) is an Indian film actress and model from Belgaum, Karnataka, predominantly appearing in Malayalam and Tamil films.
Lakshmi Rai is born on 5th May 1981 in Hubli, Karnataka. Her nickname is Krishna.
Her father Ram Rai is a businessman and her mother Manjula is a housewife. She has two elder sisters Reshma and Ashwini, who have no interest in films. She is from the Bunt community of coastal Karnataka
Lakshmi Rai started her career as a child artist at the age of eight years, appearing for some ads shot in Belgaum.
The glamorous tamil actress was crowned ‘Miss Belgaum’ in 2003 and retained the title with her hot beauty from 2003 to 2004.
Lakshmi Rai initially worked as a model before entering the film industry. She appeared in several television ads such as Sylcon Footwears, Josco Jewellers and Emmanuel Silks.
She made her acting debut in 2005 in the Tamil film Karka Kasadara opposite Vikraanth ( Actor Vijay's cousin).
However, she shot to fame with her glamourous debut in Kanchanamala Cable TV, a Telugu flick that won her accolades from the critics and fans for her brilliant performance.
Subsequently she appeared in a number of unsuccessful Tamil films, including Kundakka Mandakka (2005), Dharmapuri (2006), and Nenjai Thodu (2007).
In 2008, she began working in more serious films such as the drama film Velli Thirai, in which she played herself, and the action thriller Dhaam Dhoom. Her portrayal of a lawyer in the latter garnered her a Filmfare Award nomination in the category for Best Supporting Actress.
While most of her Tamil releases performed poorly at the box office, she rose to fame with the popular Malayalam language films and establishing herself as one of the leading actresses in the Malayalam film industry.
She made her debut in Malayalam in 2007, starring in Rock & Roll opposite Mohanlal,she was noticed by the film field although film was a commercial failure. But she followed it up with several successful films such as Annan Thambi, 2 Harihar Nagar (2009), Evidam Swargamanu (2009) opposite Mohanlal, and Chattambinadu (2009) opposite Mammootty.
She is getting into Controversies one after another. The Glamdoll although being famous for her filmography was sometimes in the news for all the wrong reasons been romantically linked to Indian cricketers, M. S. Dhoni and Sreesanth & most notably the rumour of her involvement in flesh trade getting snaps of her nude photo session hitting the headlines.
Recent rumors that her name being linked with her personal trainer Prashanth. However, she promptly refused the claims of the tabloid about this and clarified the air in this regard in a press note.
